How many people are needed to give medicine to the cat? Joking aside, if you are a dog person and now are venturing into the world of cats, forget everything you know about drug administration. Mixing the drug in the food does not help. Cats can perceives the different smell and give up eating, no matter how hungry they are.

However, we have the anatomy of the kitten’s mouth in our favor. They have structures in the tongue called spicules that are directed towards the throat. This means that if you put the tablet in the right position the animal will swallow naturally having no other option.

The immobilization

The immobilization

The secret to success is the correct immobilization of animal. Sit somewhere comfortable and place your kitten on your lap with your paws up (supine position). Then hold the back firmly and gently pull the skin from the back. This will make the cat open its mouth naturally.

Where to throw the pill

Where to throw the pill

Now with your other free hand, place the tablet in the corner of the cat's mouth. Most people think they need to throw as deep as possible, but this is even dangerous because the tablet can go to the animal's airway. If the immobilization is correct just place the pill in the corner of the mouth and voilà. This technique works even on very angry cats. Now you no longer have to say that it is easier to end a relationship than to give medicine to the cat.
